Microsoft and World’s Edge provided a sneak peek of the upcoming remaster of the real-time strategy game Age of Mythology: Retold during the New Year, New Age livestream. They confirmed that it will be released on PC and Xbox later this year.
The segment dedicated to Age of Mythology: Retold in the livestream started with Art Director Melinda Rose introducing the game and teasing that it will feature all-new 3D character models, animations, textures, and UI. Rose highlighted the intricacies of the character models for units such as Medusa, Pegasus, and Cerberus. Each unit’s design will slightly change as players upgrade them. The livestream also revealed the key art for the game, along with the announcement of its release later this year. It will simultaneously launch on both PC and Xbox, marking the first time a World’s Edge game does so.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a remaster of the 2002 fantasy RTS game, a spinoff of Age of Empires by Ensemble Studios. Microsoft first teased it in October 2022, and now, more details have been shared during the livestream. In recent years, Microsoft has been revitalizing the Age of Empires series with various remasters, console ports, and the release of Age of Empires IV.
During the livestream, World’s Edge announced that this effort has attracted over 50 million players. Age of Mythology: Retold aims to add to that number, along with other announcements like the Victors and Vanquished expansion for Age of Empires II, new civilizations for Age of Empires III, a spring update for Age of Empires IV, and Age of Empires Mobile.
Age of Mythology: Untold will be launched on PC and Xbox later in 2024. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the launch date, like all first-party Microsoft games.
