Last week, luminaries of the game industry accepted awards on stage at the Dice Awards event in Las Vegas before hundreds of their peers.
One memorable moment was Michael Douse, the director of publishing at Larian Studios, giving a touching speech while accepting an award for the Game of the Year — Baldur’s Gate 3.
The DICE Awards, hosted by Greg Miller of KindaFunny and Stella Chung of IGN, also acknowledged the layoffs that have impacted the game industry, with over 10,500 job losses in 2023 and 6,000 more in 2024.
During the event, I had the opportunity to sit in the green room and interview some of the award recipients as they walked off stage, resulting in insightful conversations with industry leaders.
