If you bought a Samsung phone within the last year or so, get ready for a big software update heading your way soon. Samsung has confirmed that a number of its older smartphones are getting Galaxy AI features as part of the One UI 6.1 update in “late March” as of February 21.
Galaxy AI was introduced last month along with the Galaxy S24 series. With the upcoming One UI 6.1 update, these AI features will become available to more users beyond just the S24 handsets.
In March, the following devices will receive the Galaxy AI toolkit:
- Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra
- Samsung Galaxy S23 FE
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra
These AI features include Circle to Search, allowing users to perform a Google search by marking or scribbling on their phone, translation tools for in-person and phone conversations, AI photo-editing tools, and a feature called “Chat Assist” that can help adjust the tone of messages. While some features may have varying levels of success, Samsung has confirmed that for the time being, all of these features will remain free on the Galaxy S24 and the devices above when they receive the One UI 6.1 update.
It has been noted that Samsung’s Galaxy AI features will eventually come at a cost, although the exact pricing and timeframe for this change are yet to be announced.
