WhatsApp announced today that it is introducing new formatting options on the app, which include bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code.
The company confirmed that these formatting features are now available to users on various platforms, including iOS, Android, web, and Mac. Additionally, these options will also be available for the Channels broadcast feature.
Here is how you can use these features:
- Bulleted lists: To create a bulleted list, type the “-” symbol followed by a space.
- Numbered lists: You can create a numbered list by typing a digit followed by a period and a space. For example: “1. “
- Block quotes: To insert block quotes, highlight certain text by typing “>” followed by a space.
- Inline Code: To highlight a snippet of code, place the code between two “`” symbols.
WhatsApp already offers basic text formatting options such as Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, and Monospace. With the addition of these new features, users can now present content in different ways.
The chat app has broadened its communication options with communities, business messaging, and Channels, which is why there is a need for formatting rather than sending plain text.
Last December, Meta introduced its AI-powered characters across all apps in the U.S. These formatting options are likely to enable the AI-powered bots to display responses neatly.
