Nintendo is set to make history with Princess Peach: Showtime! on March 22. The upcoming Switch release gives gaming’s most iconic female character her own solo adventure for the first time since 2005’s Super Princess Peach. It is a dream come true for players who have longed to see Peach in a leading role.
Brie Larson, an Academy Award-winning actress and a vocal Nintendo enthusiast, made an appearance at the first hands-on preview event for Princess Peach: Showtime!. Larson, who has a long history with Nintendo and its games, spoke to Digital Trends about her love for the company and her excitement about the game.
When asked about her favorite games, Larson reminisced about classics like Duck Hunt, the original Super Mario Bros., and The Little Mermaid. She also shared her love for Metroid and offered a strong defense of the polarizing Super Mario Sunshine.
“It’s the Peach Era. We’ve been waiting for this!” Larson expressed her excitement over the release of Princess Peach: Showtime!, a game she has wanted to see her entire life. In an interview last year, Larson had expressed her desire for Peach to have a stand-alone game.
Peach was always the place to get to, and now you get to be the place that you wanted to get to.
Princess Peach: Showtime! delivers on that dream with a transformative gameplay hook where Peach takes on a variety of roles. Larson sees empowerment in that concept, stating, “It was like this fantasy that brought me closer to reality.”
Before the game’s release, Larson reflected on her current favorite game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, stating that it might now be her reigning champ. She expressed her love for the freedom and magic in the game and mentioned her excitement for the release of Princess Peach: Showtime! on March 22.
