Kick.com made a big splash when it first launched globally in 2022. As it approaches its one-year anniversary, it’s time to reflect on the grand promises and ambitious predictions made for the platform. However, it seems that the initial hype has subsided, traffic has decreased, and social buzz has moved on, leaving Kick.com to fade into irrelevance after just twelve months.
It’s possible that the platform has yet to gain real traction. Some argue that the initial boom was merely a result of early adopters jumping on the hype train. Others believe that Kick’s aggressive expansion tactics have been exposed, and potential for significant earnings on the platform is not as promising as initially thought. Despite some major acquisitions, the platform’s numbers are down, and its social media presence is not growing significantly.
Has Kick.com already met its demise?
Has Kick Kicked The Bucket?
Throughout early 2023, Kick.com experienced rapid growth, with big acquisitions of streamers and controversial scandals. But has this affected their numbers? According to Esports Charts & Streams Charts, Kick experienced a peak concurrent viewer count of 981,385 in September 2023, with a significant portion of those viewers watching a single creator. However, peak channel counts and active channels fell by 7% and 6% respectively in that month. In August 2023, the numbers dropped even further.
Despite some growth, Kick’s viewership pales in comparison to Twitch’s numbers. While Kick is still growing, it’s at a much slower pace than the overall live streaming industry.
The End Result
Furthermore, Kick’s growth on social media and marketing efforts have decreased. Even high-profile acquisitions like xQc have not significantly boosted the platform’s performance, and the numbers are declining on both Kick and Twitch. Kick’s interface is also lackluster, with limited engagement and relevance compared to Twitch.
The platform’s future looks bleak, lacking the appeal and performance to compete with established giants like Twitch.
But What’s The Final Verdict?
While there was once potential for Kick.com to rival Twitch, it’s clear that the platform is losing its authority and momentum. With fewer streamers and waning interest, it’s uncertain whether Kick.com can turn things around. As it stands, the platform’s future does not look promising, indicating a disappointing downfall after promising early growth.
It remains to be seen whether my assessment will prove to be accurate in the long run.
