Xsolla, the game commerce company, is making headlines once again as they announce a management restructure that brings the company’s founder, Shurick Agapitov, back to the CEO position. This move is part of Xsolla’s plan to usher in their “next chapter of strategic growth and innovation”. Agapitov returns to the company after two years of working on other projects, including authoring a book titled Once Upon Tomorrow: Harnessing the New Opportunities the Metaverse Creates.
As the head of Hand of Midas, his LA-based “family office”, Agapitov has been making investments in the games industry, including backing all-in-one gaming monetization platform 3thix, which recently secured an $8.5 million pre-seed investment.
Agapitov is also known for a previous company restructuring in 2021 in which around 60 employees were laid off. The event led to Agapitov stepping down and the appointment of Chris Hewish as interim CEO and president of Xsolla. With Agapitov’s return, Hewish will transition to the role of chief strategy officer.
David Stelzer, a veteran of the industry, has also recently been appointed as president of Xsolla. His goal is to enhance the company’s direct-to-consumer offerings and expand their accessibility and value to the gaming community worldwide.
Building upon the existing team, Berkley Egenes remains as the chief marketing & growth officer and Sophia Lisaius as the VP of people & culture.
Xsolla states, “As Xsolla steps into 2024, this empowered leadership team is set to navigate the complexities of the gaming industry with innovative strategies and a vision for comprehensive growth for its partners.”
