Nitro Games, a Finnish free-to-play games maker, has announced an expanded agreement with Digital Extremes, the creator and IP holder of Warframe, to develop a mobile version of the game. As part of the deal, Nitro Games has received an additional €3.5 million in funding, on top of the €1.2 million granted in August 2023. This brings the total order value to around €12.5 million, as the companies continue to build on a relationship that dates back to July 2021.
The mobile adaptation of Warframe is expected to be completed this year, marking a significant milestone for the game, which was first launched on PC in 2013 and has since expanded to consoles, with cross-play support introduced in 2022. The recent addition of cross-platform saves further underlines the game’s evolution, making it a prime candidate for a mobile adaptation.
Nitro Games will provide game development services for the mobile version of Warframe, in line with the company’s strategy to offer services to selected customers in addition to developing its own games. The title itself is an MMO featuring procedurally generated levels, blending elements of shooters, RPGs, and close-combat fighters. It also offers microtransactions, making it a natural fit for mobile platforms.
Nitro Games CEO Jussi Tähtinen expressed enthusiasm for the expanded collaboration, citing the project as a “great fit for our vision and strategy.” The company has previously partnered with TikTok to develop HTML5 games Peek a Who and Space Destroyer.
