The gaming industry is experiencing a dramatic shift towards live service games. According to the 2023 Game Development Report from VC firm Griffin Gaming Partners, more than 60% of game studios are currently working on live service games, while 30% are focused on releasing regular updates for their games.
The report also highlights that 68% of producers believe their production pipeline is not suitable for live service games, and 53% of studios are expected to face setbacks, emphasizing the need for solutions in the production process.
In collaboration with Rendered VC, the report reveals that 65% of studios plan to increase their use of off-the-shelf tools, reflecting the industry’s goal of utilizing better technology solutions.

Jiten Dajee, partner at Rendered VC, emphasizes the need for developer efficiency in games with live-service dependent go-to-market strategies, stating that using emerging tools can make a significant difference in staying ahead of competitors.
The report also emphasizes the evolution of modern software development in game development processes, suggesting that combining emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, hardware, and cloud will enhance efficiency and foster innovation in game genres and business models.
