Ahead of OnePlus announcing OxygenOS 15, Oppo showed off ColorOS 15, which has taken quite a lot of inspiration from Apple’s iOS software. Given their close relationship, I was concerned that OxygenOS 15 would follow suit.
After spending some hands-on time with OnePlus’ latest software, I can say that my fears were unfounded.
Not Just an iOS Clone
Thankfully, OnePlus has not fully embraced the iOS-inspired features seen in ColorOS, but it has incorporated some elements. One such feature is the Dynamic Cloud, similar to Dynamic Island, which creates a floating window around the front camera. It works with select apps like Spotify and the Recorder app. The dynamic lock screen and customizations resemble iOS but with its own unique twist.
The wallpaper Word Art feature is quirky, but limited in choices. OxygenOS 15 also introduces Parallel Processing for improved performance and a revamped Games app with new features like frame rate control and vibration modes.
Speed and Performance
OxygenOS 15 emphasizes speed and smoothness with Parallel Processing technology for seamless app switching and multitasking. While it may not feel as buttery smooth as some competitors, it offers fast performance, especially in gaming scenarios.
The AI photo-editing tools like AI Eraser and AI Detail Boost enhance photo editing capabilities. However, some features may feel restrictive or less refined compared to other offerings.
Conclusion
OxygenOS 15 surprises with its distinct identity and performance improvements. While drawing inspiration from iOS, OnePlus has managed to create a software experience that stands out. Minor quirks aside, it offers a compelling user experience that many will appreciate.
