The tension is rising as I find myself in the middle of a game of Hilo, a new game included in The Jackbox Survey Scramble. I am engaged in a friendly competition with three members of the Jackbox staff where we take turns guessing the most popular sandwich fixings to earn points. Now, we are challenged to guess the least popular response from a list of over 270 entries. My initial instinct was to write “mayonnaise,” but to my surprise, it turned out to be the second most popular answer. To secure a win, I must think outside the box and strategize like a seasoned Jackbox player.
After contemplating for a moment, I write down “Poop,” and find it placed somewhere in the middle of the list.
Unlike the developer’s previous Party Packs filled with witty prompts and jokes, The Jackbox Survey Scramble takes a different approach. This collection focuses on players’ responses to surveys to generate the comedic content. This fresh and innovative concept showcases the Jackbox team’s creativity and marks a new chapter in their journey, all for the enjoyment of their players.
Survey says …
The Jackbox Survey Scramble provides a unique gaming experience compared to the traditional Jackbox Party Pack. Instead of drawing pictures or following a set of rules, all four games included in this pack revolve around the concept of surveys. Players are presented with questions such as “What’s the best cat name?” or “Words you see in a comic book?” and are required to submit one-word answers. These answers are then reviewed, stored, and integrated back into the game, ensuring a dynamic and ever-changing gameplay experience as more players join in.
Game director Tim Sniffin envisions The Jackbox Survey Scramble to have a long shelf life, evolving with each playthrough and reflecting the world around it as more players participate. The game is designed to offer a fresh and engaging experience every time it is revisited.
While the idea of guessing answers may initially seem less zany compared to other Jackbox games, Survey Scramble introduces innovative twists to keep players engaged. The game modes like Hilo and Speed offer varying levels of intensity and interaction, catering to different play styles and preferences. The emphasis is placed on player-driven humor rather than pre-defined prompts, creating a unique and entertaining gaming experience.
The standout game in the pack is Squares, a clever spin on Tic-Tac-Toe where teams compete to connect three squares on a grid by answering survey questions. The strategic aspect of this game adds depth and complexity, making it one of the most creative offerings from Jackbox in recent years.
The Jackbox Survey Scramble presents a refreshing change for Jackbox enthusiasts. With a focus on experimentation and creativity, the game showcases the studio’s willingness to explore new ideas and engage players in fresh ways. This innovative approach, coupled with the signature Jackbox humor, makes for an exciting and enjoyable gaming experience that is bound to appeal to both new and seasoned players alike.
The Jackbox Survey Scramble is now available on various platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC, offering a diverse audience the opportunity to enjoy this dynamic and engaging game.
