Epic Games has introduced Fab, its new open content marketplace.
Described as a “one-stop destination” by the creators of Fortnite, Fab allows users to purchase, sell, and exchange digital assets.
This innovative platform provides support to creators by offering content that can be used across various platforms such as Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), and other digital tools.
Fab has replaced the Unreal Engine Marketplace and Sketchfab Store, and is now also home to Quixel Megascans.
Unreal Engine developers will soon have direct access to Fab within UE5, and Fortnite creators can access assets through Fab in UEFN, although UEFN integration is currently undergoing maintenance.
A Promising Start
“We have big plans for Fab, and today’s launch is just the beginning,” Epic stated in a press release. “In the upcoming months, we will continue to enhance the user experience, offer new content, and introduce new features.”
“Our future plans include introducing new file formats like Roblox and Minecraft assets, providing access to MetaHumans, implementing a new listing review system, offering product-specific FAQs, establishing a pipeline for creators to easily publish content directly from UEFN to Fab, and introducing new analytics to improve the selling experience.”
“In 2025, we will make a selection of the Megascans library available for free to all users, regardless of the engine or platform they are using.”
“This starter pack will contain over 1,500 carefully curated assets, including a range of popular 3D assets, plants, trees, surfaces, decals, imperfections, and the ten packs Quixel launched on the day of Fab’s release.”
