My experience with the iPhone 16 Pro has been mostly fulfilling, despite a rough start. The phone froze during the initial setup, leading to a restart and concerns about lost data or ongoing booting issues.
Over the following weeks, I encountered multiple instances of unresponsive screens, forcing me to lock and unlock the phone to continue using it. These glitches persisted across various apps, even after switching to the stable iOS 18 version from the beta. It seems I wasn’t the only one facing these issues.
After combing through numerous posts on the Apple Community discussions forums and Reddit, we uncovered a recurring pattern of overheating (link’s to battery drain) and random freezing issues, particularly in the camera app.
Reboots, lags, and app glitches
Some users have been experiencing unexpected reboots, occurring at random times. Whether while charging or in use, these restarts happen abruptly, as documented on the Apple Discussions forum.
Interestingly, these reboots are not limited to beta software users but also affect those running the stable iOS 18 version. Moreover, users are reporting frequent daily restarts, causing disruption to their usage.
Another common complaint is the overall lag in the user interface and glitchy animations, which persist even after a system restart. Even the hardware restart method is failing in some scenarios, as highlighted in a user report.
Users continue to express frustration over frequent screen blackouts and notification delays, pointing to persistent issues affecting their usage.
Is the camera app the real culprit?
However, the most concerning issue appears to lie within the camera app, with multiple users documenting freezes and crashes, particularly during zooming or focus adjustments. Some users are even facing crashes during basic photography tasks.
Issues extend beyond the camera app to other apps utilizing the camera UI, causing performance hiccups and screen locks. Users are also encountering problems with the Photos app, especially during editing sessions.
Several users are unable to edit Live Photos or capture high-resolution videos without experiencing app crashes, despite attempting force resets for a solution.
It seems the problems aren’t confined to the camera app, as reports also indicate issues with Siri, Settings, and third-party apps like Amazon on the iPhone 16 Pro.
Reports of keyboard lag and unresponsiveness further compound the user experience issues, highlighting a widespread concern over app reliability and device performance.
It remains unclear whether these issues stem from faulty updates or app bugs, as Apple is yet to address and resolve the reported problems. We will continue to monitor the situation and update users on any developments or solutions provided by Apple.
