Exciting news for Like a Dragon fans! During the October 2024 Xbox Partner Preview, a new trailer was released for the next game in the series, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, announcing a new, earlier release date of February 21, 2025, one week sooner than originally planned.
In a subsequent video, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed that the release date was moved up to allow players to enjoy “the game that comes after it” with peace of mind, hinting at a possible connection to Monster Hunter Wilds based on later comments.
“If you are interested in pirates, but aren’t familiar with the series overall, please give it a try! After that, I hope you’ll also enjoy hunting at your own pace,” Yokoyama encouraged.
RGG Studio ensures that the game will only be released when ready, with Yokoyama mentioning that development is progressing smoothly, allowing for the adjusted launch date.
“We also want to deliver the game to players around the world as soon as possible,” Yokoyama added.
Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii follows the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, part of the Yakuza spinoff franchise. The game features fan-favorite Goro Majima battling pirate yakuza in both close-quarters combat and naval battles. Customization options for the ship and intense naval battles are showcased in the Xbox Partner Preview trailer, promising an over-the-top, thrilling experience.
Initially set for a February 28, 2025 launch, the new date was prompted by the September 2024 State of Play, which revealed the release of Monster Hunter Wilds on the same day, leading to the adjustment.
