Amazon has finally announced the arrival of the new Fire TV Stick HD after a long wait in 2024. Priced at $35, this device is set to replace the two oldest sticks in the Fire TV Stick lineup, reducing the total number from four to three. The $40 Fire TV Stick and the $30 Fire TV Stick Lite will still be available while supplies last.
Among the current Fire TV Stick lineup, the Fire TV Stick HD stands out for supporting up to 1080p resolution, HDR, HDR 10, HDR10+, and HLG. However, it lacks Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support for audio. It comes with the Alexa Voice remote, operates on Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), and offers 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM. While compatible with Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming service, it does not support Xbox Game Pass.
The device still uses Micro USB for power, a somewhat outdated feature for 2024. It also misses out on Fire TV OS features like Ambient Experience and picture-in-picture support.
The Fire TV Stick HD is best suited for a spare room rather than a main viewing area due to its limitations. Overall, it serves as a means for Amazon to streamline its offerings at the lower end of the Fire TV Stick range.
