NetEase Games has officially announced their development of Destiny: Rising, a free-to-play mobile RPG set in the universe of Bungie’s popular first-person shooter franchise, Destiny. NetEase has acquired the license to the Destiny brand from Bungie and will be responsible for creating and publishing the game. Destiny: Rising will feature familiar Destiny characters in new and exciting settings, along with a mix of returning and fresh game modes. Currently, there is no confirmed release date for the game.
Destiny: Rising takes place in an alternate universe within the Destiny universe timeline, following the collapse of civilization and the Dark Age. Players can enjoy both single-player and cooperative gameplay, as well as competitive multiplayer modes. The game offers the option to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives and supports both controller and touch-based controls. With multiple playable characters, diverse biomes to explore, and a variety of weapons to choose from, Destiny: Rising promises an immersive gaming experience.
Ethan Wang, SVP of NetEase Inc., expressed enthusiasm in a statement, stating, “With Destiny: Rising, NetEase Games is thrilled to collaborate with Bungie to deliver a top-quality Destiny experience to mobile gamers. Destiny has a dedicated global fanbase, and we are honored to bring them an action-packed RPG shooter set in the Destiny Universe.” This partnership between Bungie and NetEase dates back to 2018 when they first announced their collaboration on a new game. NetEase also made a significant investment in Bungie, securing a minority stake in the developer the following year. It was emphasized that this new project would not impact the development of the mainline Destiny titles.
