Exciting news for Tron fans! A new video game titled Disney Tron: Catalyst is slated for release in 2025, marking the first collaboration between Devolver label Big Fan Games and the Tron franchise. Set in The Grid, this isometric action game focuses on narrative, identity disc combat, and light cycling. Digital Trends had the opportunity to preview the game in a hands-off demo, revealing some key details about this highly anticipated project.
Disney Tron: Catalyst is the brainchild of Bithell Games, renowned for their previous release, Tron: Identity, which debuted in 2023. While Identity was a visual novel detective story, Catalyst takes on a more traditional action-adventure approach reminiscent of games like Hades.
Even though it exists within the same universe as Identity, players do not require prior knowledge of the previous game to enjoy Catalyst. This standalone adventure unfolds in the Arq Grid, following the journey of protagonist Exo as he pursues CORE agent Conn. The game’s aesthetics stay true to the Tron universe with striking neon cyberpunk visuals, complete with the iconic light cycle for exploration.
Combat mechanics take center stage in this installment. Exo wields an identity disc for both close-range slashing and ranged attacks. Additional abilities, such as a disc kick, add depth to the combat system by allowing players to deal more damage strategically. While early gameplay hints at these features, Bithell promises even more abilities in the final version.
One of the most intriguing features of Catalyst is its loop system, which allows players to restart missions and approach them differently armed with new insights. While the specifics are still shrouded in mystery, this mechanic implies a variety of ways to tackle missions.
Disney Tron: Catalyst is scheduled to launch in 2025 across major platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
