Apple has made a significant change with the introduction of iOS 18.1 that will simplify the process for users looking to change their primary email address associated with their account. Previously, users had to delete their existing email address before being able to add a new one to their Apple account.
With the iOS 18.1 update, users can now easily change their primary email address without the need to delete the current one first. The Settings app now includes a dedicated “Primary Email” toggle that allows users to specify a preferred email address for all communications, making it more convenient for those using a Gmail account on their iPhone and iPad.
Additionally, Apple is also streamlining the process for users to change their primary iCloud email account, which is used for various Apple services such as iMessage and FaceTime.
This change not only offers convenience but also adds a layer of security. Previously, users could only use an alias for their identity when collaborating on shared projects, leaving their inbox address exposed. Now, users can easily update their email address, especially if they want to get rid of unprofessional or embarrassing addresses.
If you have iOS 18.1 installed on your iPhone, you can change your iCloud email address by navigating to Settings > Profile Name > Sign-In & Security > Email & Phone Numbers.
The latest changes were first reported by MacRumors. Apple has already released the sixth beta update of iOS 18.1, which includes cosmetic changes and minor additions to the Settings app for those on the test channel.
