If you own a Chromecast with Google TV and have been admiring the features of Google TV Streamer such as viewing camera feeds, adjusting temperature, and controlling lights, you can now enjoy the same functionalities. Additionally, you can access custom AI ambient art to use as screensavers. To get started, simply enable the “Public Preview” option in Google Home with just a couple of clicks either in the app or on the website and wait for it to appear.
It seems like this is a server-side feature, as my Chromecast did not require an additional system update. Once you enable the switch, you will see Google Home as an option in the notifications menu, allowing you to turn on the home panel and enable doorbell notifications on your TV, similar to the Google TV Streamer. For a detailed review of these features, check out our full Google TV Streamer review.
Just a reminder, to access these features today, you need to join the Public Preview for Google Home. If you prefer to wait, it will eventually be available for Chromecast with Google TV. Additionally, please note that the Onn 4K Pro does not currently support these features.
Lastly, keep in mind that the Google TV Streamer is expected to replace Chromecast with Google TV at some point. If you are considering purchasing either device, it’s advisable not to wait too long, as once they are phased out, they may no longer be available.
