When Nick Spreen decided to test out the beta version of iOS 18.1 to explore the upcoming Apple Intelligence features, he was taken aback by an unexpected AI-generated summary of breakup texts from his then girlfriend.
The AI message succinctly stated, “No longer in a relationship; wants belongings from the apartment,” leaving Spreen surprised and disheartened. After sharing a screenshot of the unfortunate incident on X platform, Ars Technica reached out to Spreen to verify the validity of the message – you can find more details in their article about this digital breakup.
Apple Intelligence aims to enhance productivity and streamline communication by offering features like text summaries, which can be especially handy in a busy group chat with numerous unread messages.
However, just as no one wants to receive birthday notifications for deceased loved ones on social media, nobody needs a machine-generated breakdown of a breakup. Hopefully, Apple will fine-tune the summary feature to ensure that Apple Intelligence exhibits a higher level of emotional intelligence in the future.
