Konami revealed details about its Silent Hill titles — including a new game that launches today — at the State of Play event. Its newest Silent Hill game is a free-to-play title called The Short Message, which launches today on PlayStation 5. It also revealed a new trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake, although that title did not get a release date.
It’s a first-person horror title reminiscent of the defunct P.T. Motoi Okamoto, a producer at Konami, said on the PlayStation Blog that the title is experimental and created in part by fledgling developers. Konami also partnered with HexaDrive on its development. According to Okamoto, the game’s central theme is about cyberbullying and the pressure of living under a barrage of online negativity.
Okamoto says the developers chose to focus on younger characters with modern problems: “Characters who are genuinely suffering and lost, where even one more minor setback can wind up pushing them even deeper into a spiral of anguish. But, in the same way, even the smallest kindness can be the thing that pulls them back from the brink. And that’s what also makes this game a message, from us to everyone living with that ever-present conflict and pressure.”
In addition to The Short Message, Konami also revealed a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. This trailer includes a look at some of the original game’s most iconic enemies, the bandaged nurses. This trailer also gives a better look at the third-person combat, which developer Bloober Team confirmed would replace the original’s fixed camera angles.

This update didn’t include any information about the other Silent Hill titles in the works at different studios: Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill F. Those were first revealed in 2022 but have not been shown much at subsequent events. However, Okamoto acknowledged these games indirectly when talking about The Short Message, saying, “In 2022, we announced a revival for the Silent Hill series, along with several new titles in development, and this marks the first of that new wave of games to be released.”
