Starting next month, players using Android devices can purchase Xbox games directly from the Xbox App.
Sarah Bond, Xbox president, shared on LinkedIn that the recent court ruling will provide more choices and flexibility for users. From November onwards, players will have the option to play and buy Xbox games directly through the Xbox app on Android.
This announcement follows a US judge determining that the Play Store operates as an illegal monopoly. As a result, Google is required to permit third-party app stores access and make its in-app purchase system optional for developers over the next three years.
Despite this ruling, Google intends to challenge the decision.
Microsoft’s New Online Marketplace
Bond’s remarks follow the earlier confirmation in May that Microsoft intends to launch its own Xbox mobile games store. During a Bloomberg Live event, she stated that the new marketplace would initially debut on the web, ensuring accessibility across all devices and regions without being subject to the policies of closed ecosystem stores.
Initial offerings will include titles from Microsoft’s own library, such as Candy Crush Saga and Minecraft, with plans to expand to include games from other developers.
Although the marketplace was slated for a July release, no further updates have been provided aside from the introduction of a webpage.
