Meta has announced that its more affordable Meta Quest will now support spatial video playback, a feature previously only available on Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This move by Meta makes their headset more competitive with Apple’s Vision Pro, which starts at $3,500 and can cost closer to $4,600 with necessary add-ons and accessories. The addition of spatial video support on Meta Quest devices will allow users to upload and view their 3D recordings, making it a more enticing option for consumers.
Meta’s v62 software update, which is beginning to roll out now, will also include support for external gamepads and Facebook livestreaming for all Meta Quest users. Additionally, users will now be able to perform common actions with simple gestures, similar to Vision Pro’s navigation capabilities. This update comes just before the public launch of Apple’s Vision Pro, which may impact consumer decisions on which VR device to invest in.
