The Apple Vision Pro apps are gearing up for the spatial computing device’s launch on Friday, with more than 600 new apps and games being readied for the platform. This is a significant increase from the 150-plus apps designed specifically for the Vision Pro just last week. Apple announced that these new apps will join the existing 1 million apps across iOS and iPadOS.
However, there is criticism surrounding Apple’s compliance plan with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), with Spotify, Epic Games, and Microsoft denouncing the plan as favoring Apple rather than complying with the spirit of the law. This has led to concerns that Apple’s anti-developer stance could deter developers from building apps for the AR/VR headset.
Nevertheless, Apple is aiming to alleviate these concerns by ensuring a sizable app catalog for the Vision Pro, with more than 600 apps and games designed to take advantage of the device’s capabilities. Notable streaming apps like Disney+, ESPN, and MLB are among those showing support for the Vision Pro, along with several cable companies and sports broadcasters.
Productivity apps from Microsoft 365, Box, and Slack, among others, are also set to be available on the Vision Pro. Additionally, gaming titles including BA 2K24 Arcade Edition and Apple Arcade’s catalog of over 250 games will be accessible, with no in-app purchases or ads.
Many other apps, ranging from 3D dioramas to medical and wellness apps, will be launched on the Vision Pro’s App Store. Despite the concerns and criticisms, Apple seems dedicated to ensuring a robust app ecosystem for its newest computing platform.
