Epic Games has recently rolled out new parental controls to limit children’s playtime on Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN).
The new controls, launched on October 1st, allow parents and guardians to set limits on total playtime and time windows, determining when play is permitted during the day.
Managing playtime
Fortnite’s parental settings can be accessed through the game’s main menu or the Epic Account Portal, with playtime restrictions applied per account rather than device. If a child exceeds their daily limit on one platform but uses the same account on another, the limit will still apply unless they switch to a different account.
If a time limit is in place, the child will receive notifications once they reach the last half hour of playtime. The countdown pauses if the game is inactive, such as when the console or phone goes into sleep mode.
Parents and guardians have the option to override time limits and grant additional playtime if desired.
Adults who opt for Time Reports can monitor their child’s playtime across Fortnite and UEFN, including any extra time granted. The report provides a weekly summary to help parents make informed decisions about allowing additional playtime.
These new controls supplement existing parental safety features like social permissions, language filters, and purchase settings.
“Our Parental Controls allow you to customize how your child plays and interacts with others in Epic’s games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys,” said Epic Games.
These tools empower parents to make informed decisions and manage access to social features such as voice and text chat, in-game purchases, and more.
“Today we introduce two new parental controls: Time Limit Controls and Time Reports. With these, parents and guardians can oversee and track how much time their child spends in Fortnite and Unreal Editor for Fortnite.”
Additionally, this month is slated to unveil Epic Games’ new content marketplace Fab.
