The quick insert key, doubling as a Caps key, will open a menu providing access to various tools such as the Gemini-powered “Help me write” tool, emoji and GIF search, recent browsing history for quick link copying, integrated Google Drive search, and tools for quick calculations, date addition, and unit conversion.
While the quick insert key is currently only available on the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus, Google plans to expand this feature to more Chromebook Plus devices. However, all users can access the same menu through the Launcher Key + F shortcut.
Earlier this year, Google introduced an AI writing tool and AI-powered wallpaper generator for Chromebook Plus devices. Now, they are introducing a “Help me read” tool that summarizes PDFs, articles, and websites with a simple right-click. Users can also ask follow-up questions like other AI assistants.
Google has also announced the addition of live translation features to Chromebook Plus, providing captions in over 100 languages for content during Zoom meetings, YouTube streams, or local video files. They have also improved video calls with AI-based mic simulation for noise reduction and room reverberation, along with appearance adjustments for lighting and brightness.
For all Chromebook users, Google has included various updates such as pinning Gemini’s web app on the shelf for quick access to the AI Assistant without opening the browser. They have also introduced Welcome recaps, giving a visual overview of past activities across devices and providing suggestions for articles or recent files.
Customizable Focus modes, white noise soundscapes, and the ability to pin files to the shelf for easier access online or offline are also new features available to all Chromebook users. Additionally, the popular Goodnotes app has been optimized for Chromebooks with stylus input support.
As an incentive to use their AI tools, Google is offering the Google One AI Premium Plan with access to Gemini Advanced and Gemini in various Google applications for three months to new Chromebook buyers and 12 months to new Chromebook Plus buyers.
