Veteran jungler Sebastián “Oddie” Alonso is considered one of Latin America’s greatest players. However, the region had never witnessed one of its teams winning a best-of series at the World Championship until this year. Oddie’s Movistar R7 made history by defeating 100 Thieves, but a subsequent loss to GAM Esports has put the team in a precarious position. We caught up with Oddie after the defeat.
Esports.net: Why do you think you couldn’t replicate the performance that led to your victory against 100T?
Oddie: In the first game, we struggled to force fights as 100T played passively and focused on farming. This made it difficult for us to capitalize. In the second game, our draft was weak and didn’t align with our communication and strategy, leading to a poor performance. They outplayed us strategically and had better champion picks.
Despite the loss, I am confident that we can bounce back in the next series with stronger communication and a better draft. We need to fix our mistakes and approach the next match with a positive mindset.
Lee Jones: Despite the loss, do you still see yourselves as favorites against VKE or SHG?
How crucial is it to regain confidence before the next series?
Oddie: Although we faced a tough loss, I believe that with improved communication and strategy, we can perform better in the upcoming match. It’s essential for us to address our mistakes and approach the next series with confidence.
We need to rectify our errors and play to our strengths. Despite the setback, we are optimistic about our chances in the next game and determined to perform at our best.
How was the jungle matchup with Levi?
Oddie: In the first game, Levi played well and capitalized on objectives while we tried to scale back into the game. However, in the second game, he outperformed us. I anticipated his playstyle, as he excels in farming and making smart decisions. It was a tough matchup, but we acknowledge our shortcomings in that game.
Our performance was below par, and Levi’s skill was evident. We need to regroup and strategize better for future matchups.

Lee Jones: Do you feel a connection with players like Levi, Maple, Evi, TitaN, despite not interacting much?
How does your shared experience as veteran players from smaller regions influence your bond with them?
Oddie:As seasoned players, we share a common bond despite belonging to different regions. We are considered veterans in our respective regions and have a deep understanding of the game. Players like Levi, Maple, Evi, and TitaN are like the stalwarts of their regions, and I feel a strong connection with them based on our shared experiences.
Lee Jones: Reflecting on the historic win against 100T, does it fuel a desire for a memorable run in the tournament?
Is there added pressure to deliver a strong performance considering the current circumstances?
Oddie: With the realization that this may be our last World Championship representing LLA, we are motivated to make a lasting impact. Despite the challenges we face, we are determined to give our best and leave a mark on the tournament. The loss stings more now because it could be our final chance to shine on this stage.
Win or lose, our region’s future is uncertain. However, we are focused on making the region proud and ending on a positive note.
The defeat weighs heavily on us, knowing it could be our last opportunity to make an impact. We are committed to giving our all and striving to bring joy to our region with our performance.
This defeat hits hard, but we are determined to fight till the end and give our all.
