PlayStation has recently raised the price of the original game’s PlayStation 4 Complete Edition by $20 on the PlayStation Store following the announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
Previously retailing for $20, the Complete Edition has doubled in price without prior notice.
According to reports by Video Games Chronicle, tracking websites like PSDeals.net and PSPrices.com confirm the new price of $40 — the highest since 2018. Physical copies may still be available at lower prices from third-party retailers like Amazon, but official list prices have been updated to $40.
Although PlayStation has not commented on the price increase, it is speculated that the aim is to discourage purchases of the older version with the remastered version on the horizon. Existing owners of Horizon Zero Dawn can upgrade to the remastered version for $10 on both PS5 and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
This isn’t the first time PlayStation has silently raised prices this month. Earlier in September, the cost of the DualSense controller was raised universally by $5, excluding the DualSense Edge which already retails for $200.
Sony unveiled Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered during its September State of Play, scheduled for release on October 31 with The Frozen Wilds DLC and various upgrades for PS5 including 3D audio, DualSense features, and visual improvements to align with the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.
