Audible, the audiobook service owned by Amazon, is utilizing AI technology to enhance audiobook discovery and provide personalized recommendations. Recent experiments conducted by Audible involve AI-generated tags that analyze customer feedback to offer tailored suggestions based on individual preferences. These experiments are currently being tested on 50% of U.S. users with iOS and Android devices.
With the introduction of a new “Tags” carousel within the app, Audible’s AI analyzes customer reviews to provide brief explanations of why other listeners enjoyed a specific audiobook. By displaying tags like “heartwarming romance” or “relatable storyline” at the top of a title, users can quickly understand the essence of the book without having to sift through numerous reviews. This approach is similar to Amazon’s use of generative AI technology for its e-commerce platform, which includes features like summarizing product reviews to provide a concise snippet at the top of the page.
In addition to tags, Audible is also exploring AI-driven topic pages to help users discover relevant audiobooks that they may not have otherwise come across. The platform leverages AI for various features such as its AI-powered search tool called “Maven,” curated audiobook collections, and AI-generated review summaries.
Furthermore, Audible has begun training select narrators to provide their voices for AI-generated audiobook recordings. This move aligns with the actions of competitors like Apple, who introduced AI-powered audio narration for select Apple Books last year. By embracing AI technology, Audible aims to improve user experience by offering personalized recommendations and enhancing audiobook discovery.
