Advanced Voice, powered by the GPT-4o model, enables users to communicate directly with the chatbot without relying on written prompts. This feature was initially tested with a limited group of ChatGPT Plus subscribers and is now available to all paid subscribers.
OpenAI also introduced five new voices for the chatbot: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale (listen to them here). These voices can be used in Standard and Advanced Voice modes alongside the existing four voices. The company mentioned upcoming support for video and screen sharing in Advanced Voice.
Additionally, OpenAI added memory and custom instructions features to enhance the Advanced Voice experience. The memory function allows the AI to recall past conversations, while custom instructions enable users to set guidelines for AI responses.
Plus and Teams subscribers will receive a notification within the app once the Advanced Voice feature is available. Unfortunately, Advanced Voice is not accessible in certain European countries.
OpenAI’s announcement coincided with Google’s launch of Gemini Live, a similar AI conversational tool available to all users.
