Riot Games has revealed its future plans for League of Legends in 2025, leading up to Worlds 2025. One of the major changes on the horizon is a shift in the game’s seasonal model to align more closely with live service games.
Traditionally, each year in League of Legends is considered a single season, with multiple patches being released throughout. However, in 2025, Riot Games will introduce three distinct themed seasons for the game. Each season will feature a new Champion, along with narrative, progression, and gameplay updates tied to the theme of that season. This new approach is akin to the seasonal models of games like Fortnite, with clearly scheduled themed updates.
While specific details about the content of these new seasons are still scarce, Riot Games has mentioned a focus on exploring themes such as the feeling of impending doom when the losing team’s Nexus is exposed in the first season of 2025. Additionally, Riot Games addressed the future of experimental modes like Arena and Swarm, confirming that they will not become permanent game modes. However, Arena will make a limited-time return in the first half of 2025.
In the immediate future, players can look forward to patch 14.20 on October 9, which will include an art and sustainability update for the Champion Teemo, as well as adjustments to ensure a balanced reward system for wins and losses. The upcoming League of Legends Player Days Event, running from October 9 to October 27, will offer special missions and champion skins for players to enjoy.
