Huawei has incorporated its innovative PaperMatte screen technology into two new tablets. This technology creates a low-reflection, anti-glare viewing experience similar to paper, reducing eye strain and enhancing comfort during extended use. The top model features a PaperMatte screen with a maximum brightness of 2,000nits, making it the brightest tablet screen currently available from Huawei.
The MatePad Pro 12.2, recently announced in China, boasts a 12.2-inch Tandem OLED screen on the front and is available in either basic black or Premium Gold finishes on the rear panel, which has a silky texture inspired by natural fabric fibers. The tablet is lightweight at 508 grams, with a thickness of just 5.5mm and a 4.6mm bezel surrounding the screen, resulting in a 92% screen-to-body ratio.
The tablet is powered by a 10,000mAh battery and includes Huawei’s Glide keyboard accessory, along with compatibility with Huawei’s M Pencil stylus. The package is lightweight at under 1kg, making it lighter than most thin laptops. The black version with 256GB storage is priced at 700 British pounds (about $930), while the Premium Gold model with 512GB storage costs 800 pounds (about $1,083).
The second tablet, MatePad 12 X, also incorporates PaperMatte screen technology with a brightness of 1,000 nits. It features a 12-inch screen with a 2800 x 1840 pixel resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and support for Huawei’s M Pencil stylus. Equipped with six speakers, it is ideal for watching videos and comes in various colors. Both tablets include Huawei’s new GoPaint app. The MatePad 12 X offers 512GB storage and a keyboard case, priced at 550 pounds or around $730.
Huawei’s tablets face competition from top Apple iPad models and a range of appealing Android tablets. Similar to Huawei’s phones, these new MatePad tablets do not have Google Play installed, which may affect their appeal to some consumers.
