If you’ve recently tried to post from your iPhone, you may have noticed a new toggle labeled “(Meta-only) Internal post.” This toggle seems to prevent your post from being published, resulting in an error in your feed.
This is likely a result of “dogfooding,” where internal testing tools unintentionally appear in a production application. The app, currently version 349.0.0, was last updated recently, but features can be rolled out server-side. So, the toggle might disappear as suddenly as it appeared.
You’ll find the toggle above the section where you can add a caption to your photo, right before the tagging and music options. Attempting to post with the toggle on will display an error message saying, “Something went wrong. Please try again later.” Retry attempts will also fail.
After the failed upload, you’ll receive a notification stating, “You are creating media that will be gated to IG-only or Meta-only but you are not considered an employee or test user that can set the flag. Please check your gating and try again.” This confirms the dogfooding nature of the error, indicating that the toggle will likely be removed soon.
It was an interesting experience while it lasted.
