With the rollout of iOS 18, there are some exciting new features that are worth exploring, including a setting that notifies you when you’re using a slow charger with your iPhone.
If you have a collection of old charging cables and adapters lying around, you may not be aware that some of them are outdated and not equipped for fast charging. This is especially important if you typically recharge your phone overnight while you sleep.
In iOS 18, you can navigate to the Settings app and select Battery to receive alerts when using a slow charger. This will also be indicated in the battery graph by changing the color from green to orange. The specific threshold for what qualifies as a “slow charger” is not clearly defined.
The iPhone 16 is compatible with 25W MagSafe charging, and it was later discovered that the phone also supports 45W wired charging, despite Apple not emphasizing this feature initially.
You’ll also notice a change in charging limits, with options now available at 85%, 90%, and 95%, in addition to the previous 80% limit. It’s important to set a charge limit to prevent overcharging, as constantly keeping the battery at full capacity can decrease its overall longevity. While 80% is recommended, you now have the flexibility to choose higher limits without reaching the full 100% charge.
Although it may not be a groundbreaking feature, this update allows for faster charging speeds and more control over your device’s battery health.
