Apple recently unveiled the latest additions to its iPhone lineup – the iPhone 16 series. The new models bring a mix of expected and surprising upgrades. The standard iPhone 16 boasts a fresh design, an intriguing Camera Control button, and a welcome performance boost thanks to Apple’s latest A18 chip.
However, one key aspect of the iPhone 16 remains unchanged – its display. Despite all the enhancements and new features, the display on the iPhone 16 is almost identical to that of the iPhone 15, maintaining a 60Hz refresh rate.
The Persistence of a 60Hz Display
While the first iPhone to feature a 120Hz display was the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021, Apple has not extended this feature to the standard iPhone lineup. This means that the iPhone 13, 14, 15, and now the 16 all come with a 60Hz display, missing out on the smoother experience offered by higher refresh rates.
A higher refresh rate results in a smoother and more fluid display, particularly noticeable during interactions such as scrolling through apps or playing games. The difference between a 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rate is significant in terms of user experience, with the latter providing a much smoother visual experience.

In a year where 120Hz displays have become commonplace even on mid-range Android devices, it’s time for Apple to prioritize this essential feature in its standard models.
