According to Android Authority, the Google Photos app for Android is set to receive an update with new organization features, making photo management easier. These tools will particularly benefit users who back up photos and videos from third-party apps to Google Photos.
A recent APK teardown of Google Photos v6.99 revealed a new option called “Only show backed-up content” within the app’s “Show content from other apps” section. This option allows you to view images from third-party apps that have been backed up or are pending backup, offering better control over your main photo feed.
You can customize this setting per app, and more third-party apps will be supported as well.
In addition, the Google Photos app will soon display the number of photos that are not backed up from each device folder, helping you identify items that are not part of your backed-up images.
While these app updates might not be revolutionary, they will be beneficial for users. There is no specific release date for Google Photos v6.99 yet, but it could be coming soon.
Google Photos frequently receives updates. Just a week ago, improvements were made to search functionality, making it easier to search your photo library using everyday language and introducing Ask Photos with Gemini.
One of the new features, currently available to some users, leverages Gemini models to enhance the search experience, enabling Ask Photos to extract details from your photos and provide insights about specific memories.
Another new feature available to all users improves the classic search tool, allowing searches using natural language like “Andrew and I on a beach” or “Sam smiling.”
Ask Photos will eventually be accessible to all users with Google Gemini access.
