With the rise in popularity of folding phones, some apps have struggled to update their interfaces to accommodate these unique devices. Gboard, a popular on-screen keyboard available on Google-based devices, is one such app that could use a makeover for foldables.
Recently, Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority discovered a new UI within Gboard while using his Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. After updating to version 14.6.02-beta, he found that the new UI offered improved usability on large-screen devices, especially foldable phones with book-style designs.
The update includes a repositioning of toolbars, making it easier to navigate categories and utilize the search function with one hand while keeping the other hand free for selecting icons. The update removes unnecessary toolbars from the top of the screen and consolidates them into a left-hand column, streamlining the user experience.
If you’re part of the Gboard beta program, make sure to update to version 14.6.02-beta to access the new layout. While the changes may seem minor, they greatly enhance usability and optimization for foldable phone users, both new and experienced.
