One startup believes that Quibi’s lack of AI characters was a missed opportunity, leading them to introduce a new short series app called My Drama. With over 30 shows, many following a soap opera format, My Drama is now launching an AI-powered chatbot to help viewers connect with the characters on a deeper level, putting them in direct competition with companies like Character.AI.
Developed by Holywater, a Ukraine-based media tech startup founded by Bogdan Nesvit (CEO) and Anatolii Kasianov (CTO), My Drama has quickly gained popularity since its April launch, boasting 1 million users and $3 million in revenue. Holywater, known for its romance titles on the reading app My Passion, has achieved a strong track record with $90 million in annual recurring revenue across its products.
In a burgeoning short drama app market, My Drama sets itself apart with a vast library of intellectual property sourced from My Passion’s extensive collection of books. With plans to release 100 titles by the end of the year, the app is positioned for further growth.
The next phase for My Drama involves introducing AI characters that can interact with viewers, enhancing the storytelling experience. Users will have the chance to engage with fictional characters like Jaxon and Hayden, creating immersive and personalized interactions within the app.
The company has also launched a standalone app called My Imagination, currently in beta, which allows for even more personalized conversations with the AI characters. The future roadmap includes user-generated characters, setting My Drama apart in the market.
With real human actors portraying the AI characters, My Drama ensures fair compensation for their likeness and interaction. The use of AI in scriptwriting and content production has significantly reduced costs and time, enabling quick and efficient content creation.
Looking ahead, My Drama plans to enhance the AI chatbot feature and introduce video and voice chatting capabilities. Available on web, iOS, and Android devices, the app offers a mix of free and premium content, with various subscription options for users.
