Acer is unveiling an exciting new project at IFA 2024 called Project DualPlay. This laptop concept has some innovative features that set it apart from traditional designs. While closed, it appears to be a standard clamshell laptop, but once opened, Project DualPlay showcases unique capabilities that rival even the best gaming laptops on the market.
One of the standout features is the detachable controller integrated into the touchpad of the laptop. This controller is securely held in place with an electromagnetic lock and can be easily released by pressing a button on the keyboard. This allows users to enjoy gaming without the need for an additional controller.
Inspired by the Nintendo Switch, Acer made the dual controllers detachable, allowing them to be used independently for local multiplayer gaming. Early renders suggest that each controller side includes a USB-C connection for charging while detached.
Aside from the unique controller, Project DualPlay also features stereo 5-watt speakers that eject from the sides of the laptop when the controller is detached. These speakers enhance the gaming experience by providing rich sound quality, similar to what is seen on high-end gaming laptops.
To complete the futuristic design, Acer incorporated customizable RGB lighting along the edges of the laptop, including the keyboard, trackpad, and controller. The laptop also features an “infinity mirror lighting bar” around the back, adding a stylish touch to the overall aesthetic.
