While I have distanced myself from the Harry Potter franchise due to the problematic views of its creator, I still hold onto fond memories of Quidditch, the unique broomstick-riding sport featured in the series. The Quidditch scenes in the movie adaptations were always my favorites, and one of the first games I remember playing consistently on PC was 2003’s “Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup”. Even though I am no longer actively seeking out Harry Potter content, the recent launch of “Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” on PlayStation Plus caught my attention as a spiritual successor to “Quidditch World Cup.”
Experience the Magic of Quidditch
In “Quidditch Champions,” two teams of six players fly on broomsticks, aiming to score points by throwing a Quaffle into the opposing team’s ring-shaped goals. The game blends elements of soccer, rugby, and racing, making it an engaging and entertaining experience. The different player roles add depth to the gameplay, with each role catering to a specific play style. Whether you prefer offense, defense, or speed, there is a role for every player in this magical sport.
One of the highlights of the game is the role of the Seeker, whose goal is to capture the elusive Golden Snitch, earning their team crucial points. This mirrors the excitement and intensity of the Quidditch matches depicted in the Harry Potter series, bringing the fictional sport to life in video game form.
“Quidditch Champions” offers a modern gaming experience with smooth online play, crossplay capabilities, and comprehensive progression systems. Despite its potential for microtransactions, the game currently rewards players with in-game currency earned through gameplay. Offline options also provide additional gameplay opportunities beyond online matches.
As the game continues to evolve in the competitive gaming landscape, “Quidditch Champions” has the potential to resonate with both Harry Potter enthusiasts and sports game fans. Despite my waning interest in the Harry Potter franchise, I find myself drawn back to this game for its nostalgic and enjoyable gameplay experience.
“Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions” is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The PlayStation version is free for PS Plus subscribers in September and will be released on Nintendo Switch later this year.
