Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night, Koei Tecmo’s first mobile game of the decade, has been launched globally today, January 25th, 2024. This highly anticipated release comes after the game’s Japanese launch four months ago and offers Atelier series fans worldwide the opportunity to enjoy its latest entry.
Expanding the Franchise
Serving as the first main series game for iOS and Android, Atelier Resleriana represents RPG veteran Gust’s dedication to expanding the Atelier games’ reach. Since 1997, Gust has developed Atelier games, initially launching them on Sony consoles before Koei Tecmo absorbed the developer in 2014. Consequently, the series has expanded to Nintendo Switch and PC, and now, it has arrived on mobile platforms.
Developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo, Atelier Resleriana preserves the series’ signature gameplay, revolving around gathering, synthesis, and battles. Notably, the game incorporates popular gacha elements, making it an enticing combination of RPG and gacha genres.
The game’s story unfolds in a time when alchemy has been abandoned, as the protagonist, Resna, embarks on a mission to revive the art and journey to the World’s End.
Following the success of the Atelier Ryza trilogy and the series’ expansion into diverse media, such as the Atelier Ryza anime, launching a mobile game aligns with Gust’s strategy to leverage the rich Atelier IP. With a wealth of characters spanning over 25 years, the potential for a mobile gacha title is plentiful.
Furthermore, Atelier Resleriana’s global release is significant, particularly when compared to other Japanese game makers like Square Enix, which tend to restrict their mobile gachas to Japan. By embracing a worldwide audience, Koei Tecmo sets an example that could lead to more global game launches from other Japanese companies.
