Remedy Entertainment has entered into a strategic partnership with Annapurna. Under this deal, Annapurna will finance 50% of the development budget for Control 2 and acquire the rights to adapt both Control and Alan Wake into film and TV projects.
The partnership was announced by Remedy on Thursday afternoon through an investor press release. Details of the agreement reveal that Annapurna will heavily invest in the development of Control 2 and acquire the adaptation rights for the Control and Alan Wake franchises, though no official word has been given on the status of any adaptations at this time.
Both companies stand to benefit from this collaboration. Remedy will maintain ownership of its intellectual property and receive a larger revenue share from its games, while Annapurna will see increased profits from any audiovisual productions. Annapurna will also have licensing rights for ancillary products related to these adaptations.
Megan Ellison, founder and CEO of Annapurna, expressed excitement about the partnership in Remedy’s press release, stating, “The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life. By leveraging Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across mediums.”
For players, this partnership means that Remedy can move forward with Control 2 and potentially see its interconnected game universe adapted for the big screen, a prospect many fans have long awaited. However, any projects stemming from this collaboration are not expected to materialize in the immediate future due to the recent nature of the deal.
