Another day in the world of Dota 2 (Beta version, of course), and yet another high-impact bug is causing chaos in the game.
This new bug, known as the ‘Midas Bug,’ is causing an infinite gold glitch in Dota 2. This bug is so easy to replicate and abuse that it has rendered the current state of Dota 2 matchmaking unplayable, with bug abusers wreaking havoc in games and taking advantage of the glitch.
Understanding the Dota 2 Midas Bug
The ‘Midas Bug’ revolves around the misuse of the item, Hand of Midas. Players are exploiting this bug by purchasing the Hand of Midas, using it once to trigger the cooldown, dropping the item, and then picking it back up to find that the Hand of Midas is no longer on cooldown.
This creates a cycle of earning gold using the Hand of Midas, and it has become a common practice for abusers in almost every game in the past 24 hours since the bug was discovered.
Valve’s Attempt to Fix the Issue
Valve swiftly released a hot-fix for the Midas Bug, but unfortunately, it did not completely solve the problem. Players were still able to replicate the bug by following a different order of buying, selling, and dropping the Hand of Midas.
What’s even more concerning is that there are multiple variations of this bug being reported, making it challenging for players to avoid encountering it.
As a result, the Dota 2 community is now urging Valve to disable the purchase of the Hand of Midas from the shop entirely, similar to how they disabled Lone Druid from matchmaking due to a bug.
Consequences for Hand of Midas Bug Abusers
Amidst the frustration, many Dota 2 players are calling for Valve to take action against these abusers and remove the MMR wins from their accounts. Some players have even volunteered to review Overwatch cases to identify and report those exploiting the Hand of Midas bug.
If you are a Dota 2 player who did not partake in using the Hand of Midas bug, you have our utmost respect. Despite the abuse, the prevalence of bugs in Dota 2 has raised concerns among players regarding the development team’s response to such issues.
In the meantime, perhaps consider exploring other popular games that have surpassed Dota 2 in player count on Steam.
