After years of absence, Riot Games developers are finally listening to players and introducing a revamped LoL honor system. This update aims to bring significant changes to the current system.
LoL Honor System – Exciting Updates Ahead
The LoL honor system has remained unchanged for the past eight years. Despite its original intention to emphasize teamwork in the game, it hasn’t produced the desired outcomes. Riot game designer Evan Humphreys explains that the focus now shifts back to rewarding positive behavior rather than simply counting games played or performance levels.
In the upcoming September update, players will now have the ability to honor multiple teammates and even opponents, a feature that was removed in a previous update in 2017. This change addresses a long-standing player request.
“We’re introducing system modifications that allow players to recognize and reward those who demonstrate true sportsmanship, not just exceptional gameplay skills,” Humphreys stated, hinting at the three Honors skins for Malzahar and Akshan and future plans.
Combatting Negative Behavior
While the new Honor system aims to reward positive conduct and performance, Riot Games also plans to crack down on soft-inting and griefing behaviors. Soft-inting, as defined by Riot, involves taking deliberate actions to sabotage team success or a teammate’s performance.
Riot will now closely monitor such behaviors in an effort to combat the rising number of disruptive players in the community. Additionally, actions like AFK behavior and abusive chat will also be addressed as Riot steps up its efforts to promote a healthier and more positive gaming environment.
