Steam is enhancing its customer review system by introducing a new feature that indicates if the user primarily played the game on the Steam Deck.
Valve announced this update on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday. The addition of a Steam Deck icon next to the star icon in a Steam review signifies that the player experienced the game on Steam Deck, influencing the overall score.
Good morning! We’ve just shipped a new feature on Steam that shows when a customer review was written by someone who played primarily on Steam Deck. Keep an eye out for the Deck icon to see how these players reviewed the game, and let us know what you think! pic.twitter.com/RYVa9wVGYi

While it may seem minor, the gaming experience can significantly differ between a regular PC and the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck verification system exists for this reason. Some games are not optimized for controllers and handheld consoles, and despite user efforts, the gameplay experience may not be ideal. Steam is continually improving its review system to provide more valuable top reviews by implementing changes such as filtering out reviews with jokes or ASCII art through user reporting and machine learning.
Recent updates from Valve also include improvements in demo discoverability and enhanced information on Steam store pages by eliminating links to third-party websites in the description.
