The Epic Games Store has expanded its availability to Android owners worldwide and iOS users in Europe. This move could potentially signal a shift in how apps are distributed, especially on iPhones, paving the way for multiple app stores on mobile devices.
Epic’s efforts to challenge Apple’s app store dominance have been ongoing. While their antitrust lawsuit against Apple was unsuccessful, they have found success through other means.
The Epic Games Store’s availability on iOS is made possible by the Digital Markets Act in the EU. However, the store is currently only accessible in Europe for iOS users.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated, “The mobile ecosystem is beginning to open up to competition.” He emphasized that the battle is not yet won.
Initially, the store will feature Epic’s own titles such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys for mobile. Third-party developer games are expected to be added in December.
