Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, has officially launched its rival iOS app store in the European Union. The Epic Games Store is also now available on Android devices worldwide.
The app store debuts with popular games like Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys. Epic Games is actively collaborating with developers to bring more games to its platform in the future.
In addition, Epic Games is expanding its availability by partnering with independent mobile store AltStore PAL, which is now free thanks to a grant from Epic Games. The company plans to extend its reach to Aptoide’s iOS store in the EU and ONE Store on Android in the near future.
After over four years, Fortnite is making its return to iOS following Apple’s initial removal from the App Store. This move comes amidst legal battles and regulatory changes, such as the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which is promoting competition among app stores.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney expressed gratitude towards the European Commission for enabling the launch of the Epic Games Store on iOS in the EU. He emphasized the importance of competition and choice in the mobile ecosystem, likening it to open platforms like PC and Mac.
