A recent feud on social media between prominent tech investors has sparked concerns regarding the journalistic integrity of SF Standard, a news outlet established just three years ago. The controversy began when a reporter from the publication approached sources for a story concerning VC Ben Horowitz and his spouse, Felicia.
SF Standard is financially backed solely by veteran VC Michael Moritz. Following Horowitz’s accusations on the X platform, claiming that an upcoming article was a “cheap hit piece” orchestrated by Moritz, tensions escalated. Horowitz’s business associate, Marc Andreessen, joined in and made additional derogatory remarks.
TechCrunch has reached out to both Moritz and SF Standard’s Executive Editor, Jon Steinberg, for their input. While Moritz has not responded, Steinberg confirmed that reporter Emily Shugerman is indeed working on a piece about the Horowitzes. However, he refrained from disclosing further details until the article is published.
SF Standard has previously covered stories related to Horowitz, Andreessen, and Moritz, including their involvement in the acquisition of rural land north of San Francisco by tech entrepreneurs and investors.
