Activision is addressing large file size issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 by decoupling the free-to-play Warzone from the main game, which will reduce the overall size compared to Modern Warfare 3.
Starting on August 21 with Season 5 Reloaded, updates will be implemented to streamline textures, optimize the gaming experience, and allow users to download Warzone as a separate download by default. This change will have a significant impact on file sizes, making it easier for players to manage disk space.
Other updates include new texture streaming methods to optimize storage usage and a new UI set to release in mid-October. Players are encouraged to download these updates early to ensure smooth gameplay experiences.
For PlayStation 5 players, the update will be delivered through four downloads. The game will have two beta periods, one for early access from August 30 to September 4 and a public open beta from September 6 to 9. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be launched on October 25 across multiple platforms and will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Addressing concerns about the game’s size, Activision clarified that the large download size listed on the Xbox store page includes content from Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Warzone, and all content packs. However, at launch, Modern Warfare 3 was only 149GB for the whole package.
