Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who has transitioned to new and potentially controversial ventures, recently spoke to Stanford students about Google’s prioritization of work-life balance over winning. However, the video of his talk was later made private by Stanford after being shared on YouTube.
Schmidt later clarified his comments, stating, “I misspoke about Google and their work hours,” in an email to TechCrunch, expressing regret for his error.
Despite the video being made private, various news outlets have already reported on it, and a clip of Schmidt criticizing Google’s remote work practices garnered millions of views on X.
During the talk, Schmidt requested confidentiality from the audience, unaware of the cameras recording the event. He also discussed AI startups potentially infringing on intellectual property and using legal measures to address it after product success, indicating his unawareness of the video’s public posting.
